The objective of the project

Climate change is building awareness concerning issues, impacting the destruction of ecosystems conservation.

The Amazonas rainforest, the Amazonas river and the rivers sub basins, are affected by air and water pollution caused by oil spill, toxic products, mining and dumping of trash and human waste into main river and its tributaries from overcrowded cities, this has resulted in a serious Amazonas river and rainforest pollution. In some areas, the pollution has consequences, as for example acid rain been increasing in the tropics and in the rainforest in the recent years, as well the extinction of many species, and microbiological contamination with for example faecal bacteria, are crucial issue to the rivers water quality of surface -water and groundwater. Thus, the assessment of the presence of pathogenic bacteria in the Amazonas waters and river in general, represents a big concern for animal and human health protection (WHO 2012, Microbiological Society 2013). Human and animal pathogens of enteric origin, are important contaminants of the environment, affecting soil, agriculture, water, sediment and health of species and humans.

The Amazonas river as the second largest river in the world, flows into the Atlantic Ocean, due to transiting several countries, thought the Amazonas rain forest, the waters of the river are expose to human activities and factories, specially around the river stretches near the urban centers, here included the Huallagas Valley

The Amazonas rainforest is housing more than one-third of all the species in the world, live in the Amazonas Rain forest, among them over 3,000 recognized species of fish. The uncontrolled expansion of human activities, are reducing dramatically the biodiversity in the area, and changing the hydrological cycle associated with the changes in the global climate change, and causing alteration of the Amazonas rain forest, as well are causing water degradation.

People cause the most pollution in the Amazonas river, via industrial means and destruction of the plants, animals and environment, they are leaking hazardous materials into the rivers, tributaries and underwaters. Mining is also causing an overproduction of mercury, which is dangerous for human and animal health.

Therefore, our specific objectives with this project are to educate and facilitate the participation of the local communities, both public and private sectors, and creating awareness to understand the fragility of our nature surrounds and how important it is the protection of the biodiversity and the ecosystem, as it evokes the undeniability need of responsibility, respect, preservation and protection of our natural world, from the affliction caused by humans.

At the same time, our immediately   objective is to clean the rivers and river stretches, together with the local people and the authorities of the communities, to improve the Huallaga and Higueras river, tributaries and underwaters, throughout the Huallaga valley.

Specific Objectives

Education

Educate citizens across the Huallaga and Higueras valleys, about the water pollution issues, how   to contribute to solve these problems. Here there are to fronts we will work with, the information and education to the urban areas, and the communication and education among the vulnerable population.

Here, the population is considered, in social, economical and political way, vulnerable. One of the challenges for engaging those populations in the planning process is finding the adequate resources to conduct the process. Here working with methods son empowerment and resilience, will probably be an option. Small budgets and time, can be a risk factor to reach out the target of engaging those populations, as the best way to reach them will be by offering intangible services, as medical attention, or education in school matters, as well as micro own companies. We will need to include the local knowledge as a part of the sustainable solutions, as a way of integrating our ideas with the reality context.

Agent for sustainable change

Provide an agent for sustainable change, that will support, advice and guide leaders in sustainable solutions. In the start of the project, it will be our responsibility to act as the agent for sustainable solutions and actions, to clean and protect the rivers and the river stretches, working for this purpose with the local and government health and environmental public entities.

Appreciation

Foster appreciation for the natural environment, and by that wake up an awareness of national pride related to the history and culture heritage of their country and community, Peruvians are well known for their proudness concerning their cultural heritage, as well as their natural world links with the past, maintaining this way, an open and sharing atmosphere, respecting the local people’s culture and using their own history.

As well with a “Adopt river” program, an initiative developed by WRA (Water Resources Agency), that involves communities and corporate entities engaged in sustainable activities. This program, as well as they been working in other countries, may be in accordance with the Ministry of Environment of Peru and the mandate to protect and preserve the environment. (Law 28611 Peruvian environmental Law) (Ministerio del Ambiente. Peru).

Promotion

Promote an ethic voluntarism in the local society, her demonstrating the creative ability of human beings and their adaptation power to intervene in sustainable development, using intervention tools, generating elements that the locals will benefit from, and should be made them responsible and aware of their role. This brings the idea, of an economical exchange source, something like the financial buzzwords or Costa Rica’s green crypto coin: the ecolon. A digital platform that gives value to sustainability, facilitating the delivery and recovery of waste.

Empowering the users

Empower the users of water, to protect water resources, and the biodiversity.  Here the work in the local schools, institutions, universities will be very important, as well as the work of local educators and campaigners, educating about water, environment and their resources, as well the awareness about respect for natural environment as a very starting basis of a change process.
